Bessie Smith papers, 1904-1905.

The collection consists of a scrapbook, entitled "Memories of 1905," filled with memorabilia and remembrances of time spent at the State Normal School in Athens. There are notes to and from a young Bessie Smith and her classmates with chatty comments on boyfriends, social events, fashions, and sports. Two fine broadsides advertising University of Georgia baseball contests are pasted in the scrapbook. In addition, accompanying the scrapbook is a photograph labeled "Sophomore class of 1904 S.N.S."
